1. Nothing Compares to You
Prince Rogers Nelson, aka Prince, aka The Artist, left the world reeling when he died suddenly at his Paisley Park compound. His death, which followed illness from what’s been reported as flu-like symptoms, comes curiously after he won the rights to his music. The quintuple threat was 57. #RIP
2. Hillz in the Hartbeat
Hillary Clinton, who hopes to be the first female President, came to the Capital City this week. She talked gun violence with mothers who’ve lost children at the hands of a weapon, and grabbed a bite at Cozy Spot. Her visit came a day after her daughter Chelsea’s talk with folks at Dunns River. Can anyone say politics and rice and peas?
3. By Him, For You
Damon John, creator of the FUBU brand and the only African American entrepreneur on Shark Tank, is offering training for would-be business owners.
His Launch Academy will show you how to pitch to investors, and develop an attitude for paper-stacking.
The Hartford training will take place on Wednesday, April 27th at noon, 3 and 6 p.m. To register, go to www.djlaunchacademy.com.
4. That’s Not In the Textbook
Eddie Genao, a Hartford school official and former principal, was arrested and charged after he allegedly sent R-rated texts to a 13-year- old. His arrest came after lots of back and forth about when the district knew and why they didn’t take action sooner. Genao had previously been in the news for trying to get mixed-race students to declare themselves white so he could meet his magnet school goals. Class dismissed.
5. Season Opener?
Chompers, the mascot for the Hartford Yard Goats, was assaulted at Main & Asylum this week. Chomps was coming back from the CT Science Center, where he was most likely entertaining kids, when someone jumped out of a car and pushed him down. The mascot is fine, and it’s been ruled a prank. A stupid one at that.
